Design, Planning and engineering of the eco-village at Goodwin Creek is now under way. By fall 2010 we will have our first e-Cottage up and running. Experience living off sustainable energy first hand. A solar array lights your nights. Fuel grown on the farm keeps you warm on winter nights.

Fuel prices are at all time highs. Fuel economy is at all time lows. Oops, looks like we should have planned better.
Don't worry! Renewable energy is now within reach.

We have procured wind turbines and solar PV cells for our project. To round things out we are hoping to find a source for some micro turbines to run off the stream that runs through the property. Look here soon for conceptual drawings and photos from the project site.

If you hear someone saying solar doesn't work, they have no idea what they are talking about. Appliances and lighting are more efficient than ever before. All the electronics that we use today consume a fraction of the energy they did just a few years ago. On the other side of the scale solar panels, controllers and batteries are more productive than ever. Soon you will be able to see all this for yourself at the Goodwin Creek EcoVillage.

The first of many rooms at the farm house is nearing completion. Insulation has been increase, windows replaced and sealed tight. Energy efficient lighting installed.

The anti-predator fencing here at GCF is powered off solar panels. The system is so successful, we think that the coyotes are living on a strict diet of wild rabbit, mice and frogs. Chicken is off the menu!

Our new brooding facility is up and running with a test flock of 25 Lakenvelder Chickens. The facility is heated to 90°f with one 150 watt light bulb. You might have seen the renovation from the road. It's that smaller barn with all the new windows. Lots of light is very important to chicken health and egg production.

Solar and wind pricing continues to come down as electric company rates and taxes continue to go up. We hope to have our first solar power cottage up and running before the end of July.

Construction of the first solar powered cottage starts this week. Send us an email if you would be interested in renting the cottage this fall. This is a Fall picture taken from the eco-Cottage site. Pictures of the cottage will be online soon.
The cottage is suitable for two people only. It is a very small experiment in sustainable off-grid living.

Sorry for slacking on this project. The bakery is keeping us very busy. We have reorganized our production and it looks like we will be crazy through till Christmas.

Every day we make a tiny bit of progress on the EcoVillage. The blue prints and drawings are spread out on the table and continue to get changes and improvements.

This could be the year that things start to come together here at Goodwin Creek. We are working every day on getting the farm open to the public and having the store and ecoCottages up and running. One thing for sure, you won't catch us sleeping much.

It won't be long now. We are looking forward to having our pilot open. Two of the best features are the great views and photovoltaic generation.
It is true. Southern Living has been hanging around Goodwin Creek Farm. Look at the July issue of Southern Living magazine for a great story on the Charlottesville area and Goodwin Creek Farm & Bakery.
